The Worst Foods for Breathing Issues

Have you ever wondered why you have difficulty breathing after eating certain types of food? Many people today are victims of respiratory diseases, like asthma, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, COPD, and emphysema, among others. Respiratory conditions, while not caused by, may be worsened by some of the foods we eat unknowingly.

Asthma, chronic bronchitis, and COPD share similar symptoms including inflamed, chronic dry cough, chest tightness, wheezing, shortness of breath, and increased mucus production, which many be exacerbated by the following foods:

1. Acidic foods and drinks
Some acidic foods such as citrus, fruit juice, tomato sauce, coffee, or any spicy food from stomach acid can move to the esophagus, hence causing problems in breathing. When the ring muscle forms a valve in the esophagus, it is not sealed propyl or if it often opens.

2. Carbonated beverages
It is obvious that carbonated beverages are a major cause of weight gain and bloating. This is because they are made with a lot of sugar, calories and carbonation. All these drinks, such as sodas, beer, and wines, increase pressure on the lungs, causing difficulty breathing. Should you feel thirsty, instead of taking the carbonated drinks, you should take water.

3. Cold cuts
Did you know that many cured meat types such as bacon and hotdogs have added additives called nitrates to extend their shelf life? Well, they do. The added nitrate is also a major cause of COPD.

4. Cruciferous vegetables
People who have breathing difficulties should avoid any food that has gas and causes bloating. Even though some vegetables such as kales, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower contain many nutrients and fibre, you should avoid them if they increase gas.

5. Dairy products
Milk contains a lot of calcium that makes it very nutritious. However, it contains a mesomorphic that can increase mucus in the intestines hence causing problems in breathing.

6. Excessive salt
A pinch of salt will never hurt; however, taking excessive amounts of salt causes more problems. Excessive salt makes someone retain water and causes breathing problems.
